Police who are investigation the murder of a young boy in Lewisham, have now named the boy as Jay Hughes.
Police have also released a fresh appeal for witnesses to the murder. And have said that the incident was premeditated – occurring just as short walk from the boys home.
Chris Soole, a detective within the homicide and major crime command said: “At this early stage officers are working hard to establish the full circumstances. We know that this was an awful premeditated attack on a young boy who sadly lost his life as a result. I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch with us. Those responsible must be caught and brought to justice. Any information passed to police will be treated with the strictest confidence.”
The Police were originally called to Lewisham at approximately 17:30 on Thursday, after public reports of a stabbing on Randlesdown Road. Police attended the scene quickly, joined by the London Ambulance Service.
A young man, aged just 15 was found at the scene with stab wounds – it later became apparent that the boy was making his way home from school. Sadly, even with the best efforts of paramedics on-scene – the boy was pronounced dead by 21:00.
A post-mortem has been scheduled, which is to take place today (Sunday 4th November).
